A video game collection in blog form… a constant work in progress

Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure

System: 3DS

Genre: Rhythm/Puzzle

Release: 7/10/12

Completed: Yes

I initially thought Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights was the Professor Layton knockoff I’d been craving on the 3DS. Sadly, that was just not true, but my expectations for a game that could successfully meld story and puzzle elements so creatively as Layton still thrived. So it was with open and somewhat skeptical arms that I embraced Rhythm Thief. This time though, the game delivered. Rhythm Thief is one of the only games I can think of that combines music/rhythm minigames in a puzzle-like atmosphere. I enjoyed the games music, the range of fun minigames, and the loveable cast of characters. I hope Sega continues this franchise with more games and content in the years to come. Still though, Raphael/Phantom R and Fondue have nothing on Layton and Luke!
